Determination of Sexual Health Literacy Levels of Vocational School of Health Services Students

Abstract

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to determine the sexual health literacy levels of students enrolled in the Vocational School of Health Services.


Materials and Methods: The population of the cross-sectional study consisted of students enrolled in the Vocational School of Health Services of a state university located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. 344 students participated in the study. Data were obtained using the Personal Information Form and Sexual Health Literacy Scale.  Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, t test and Pearson correlation analysis.


Results: In the study, the mean score of the participants in the Sexual Health Literacy Scale was 51.08 ± 13.23. In univariate analyses, it was found that the scale score was significantly higher in those who studied in the second grade and in those who received sexual health education (p < 0.05).


Conclusions: In this study, it was determined that the sexual health literacy of the students was at a moderate level, and the grade of education and the status of receiving education about sexual health significantly increased the level of sexual health literacy.
